Kyoukan's life took an unfortunate turn at the age of 11 when he and his younger brother Kyoushu were pretty much thrown out of their hometown in Jarea due to their Mizumul powers and Hissuneku traits. Of course being so young there weren't many legitimate ways to earn money to provide a way to live properly without a parent's consent... and so people took advantage of the child; leading Kyoukan to spent most of his teen years as a child prostitute, but he was willing to do anything it took to properly care for his brother... although unfortunately he sometimes seems to use this fact as an excuse for being so controlling of Kyoushu.

Excluding his younger brother Kyoushu, Kyoukan has had no contact with his family (mother, father, older sister [Kyoumi], and another younger brother [Kyouya]) since leaving home. Although with Tatsuya's assistance he does keeps close tabs on what goes on with them. He often writes letters to his mother and sister, but... rarely sends them.

He is very close with Kyoushu, so much so that people have assumed that their relationship is more the that of just siblings. Of course, Kyoukan does indeed push the
